The Foundation provides funding towards humanitarian efforts in Gaza

The Foundation has donated €20,000 in response to the ongoing situation for Palestinians in Gaza, Lebanon and the West Bank through the Irish Emergency Alliance – Gaza & Lebanon Appeal.

The Irish Emergency Alliance is a membership organisation comprising seven Irish registered charities working on international humanitarian emergency relief. The members include ActionAid, Christian Aid, Plan International, Self Help Africa, Tearfund Ireland, Trócaire and World Vision.

This funding will support ActionAid Palestine, which distributes food parcels to displaced families in refugee camps, focusing on meeting the basic needs of those affected by the conflict. ActionAid Palestine has distributed 2,500 food parcels in recent months and provided emergency cash assistance to 100 families living in these camps. The organisation coordinates closely with key stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in aid distribution, particularly with UNRWA and the Cash Working Group.

Alan Moore, CEO, Foundation, noted “The Foundation recognises our shared humanity and the credit union philosophy of people helping people – we felt a need to respond and help in some small way on behalf of the credit unions that support us”.

The Foundation has a Humanitarian Emergency Funding Policy, with consideration given under four headings: project focus, organisation selection, available funding and extraneous circumstances. The main focus of the Foundation’s work is and will continue to be providing financial and technical assistance to develop and support strong, sustainable credit union movements.
